User roles and permissions

Roles and permissions control user access to different ProNest features. Some permissions are only available with certain roles. For example, the ability to undo output for a nest in Production Manager is only available with a Production Manager role.

User roles and permissions can be edited from the > Users page in the web app.

Editing roles and permissions requires an account with an Admin role.

Roles

There are several different account roles, giving the user different levels of control in ProNest and Production Manager. A user account may have multiple roles, if needed.

Admin

The administrator manages all other user accounts, including other administrators. This account has full capabilities and permissions in ProNest, except for features associated with Production Manager or Operator roles.

An Admin role is required to:

  • Manage user accounts (add new users, deactivate users, change roles and permissions, reset passwords)
  • Add and edit Production Manager machines
  • View and delete database backups made by other users
  • Migrate a ProNest database

Programmer

The programmer account is for users who perform common tasks in ProNest. Access to database editors can be limited with permissions. This role can also create database backups.

Operator

The Operator role is designed for a machine operator who uses Production Manager to track nests as they are cut. They can select a machine and then start, stop, and complete a nest.

Access to other Production Manager features is limited. Operators can't view Jobs or Nests pages, add or edit machines, or view production stats on the dashboard.

Production Manager

This account role is limited by the number of available Production Manager license seats. Users with this role can access all Production Manager features. This includes dashboard stats, the Jobs and Nests pages, as well a machine-specific production stats. They can select a machine and then start, stop, and complete a nest. This role can also create database backups.

Permissions

Add, edit, delete for Customers, Materials, Part Library and Assemblies, Plate Inventory, Work Orders

Restrict the ability to make changes in the respective database editor.

When a permissions box is cleared, the user will have read-only access in that database editor. This means they will not be able to make changes, such as adding, editing, or deleting records, within that database editor. Note that database changes that happen during the normal course of using ProNest will not be prohibited for any user.

Nest Cuts: Change inventory plate

The ability to replace the inventory plate used by a nest in the Production Manager. Note that this doesn't have an effect on a user's ability to edit nests or the plate list in the ProNest desktop application. Only available for users with the Production Manager role.

Nest Cuts: Undo Output

The ability to undo output in the Production Manager. This doesn't have an effect on a user's ability to undo output in the ProNest desktop application. Only available for users with the Production Manager role.

Nest Cuts: Change status

The ability to change status for a nest cut or entire nest in the Production Manager. The user can change nest status on the Jobs and Nest pages. They can also select pending nests and start, stop, and complete nests on the Machines > Currently Cutting page. Only available for users with the Production Manager role.

Users with the Operator role can always change nest status via the Machines > Currently Cutting page, but can't directly change nest status on the Jobs or Nests pages.

Nest Cuts: Update times

The ability to edit Begin Time, Elapsed Time, and operator-specific Elapsed Time for a nest cut or entire nest in the Production Manager. Only available for users with the Operator or Production Manager role.

Nest Cuts: Reorder queue

The ability to change the order in which nests are listed in the Pending queue for a machine. Only available for users with the Production Manager role.
